Job Title: Building Automation Project Manager
Department: Building Automation / Controls / MEP Services
Company Overview
We are a full-service mechanical contractor delivering comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and building automation solutions across construction, maintenance and retrofit markets. We specialise in end-to-end project services — from pre-construction and design through fabrication, installation, commissioning, energy services and ongoing service & maintenance. Our in-house fabrication facilities, engineering and CAD teams enable us to deliver efficient, high-quality systems.
Position Summary
As the Building Automation Project Manager, you will lead the planning, execution and delivery of building automation system (BAS) projects for our clients — managing scope, budget, schedule, technical performance and client satisfaction. You will coordinate with internal teams (engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, service) and external stakeholders (clients, architects, general contractors, subcontractors, equipment vendors) to ensure successful implementation of open-platform BAS/BMS systems and related MEP integrations. Given our emphasis on lifecycle management, you will also facilitate transitions from legacy control systems to advanced platforms.
Key Responsibilities
-
Plan, coordinate and manage BAS projects from kickoff to close-out, including defining scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk management and quality control.
-
Collaborate in pre-construction and design phases: review building systems, assist in value-engineering, support BIM modelling, coordinate with engineering/CAD teams.
-
Manage procurement, vendor/subcontractor selection and oversight, ensuring equipment (sensors, controllers, actuators, monitoring systems) complies with project specifications and company standards.
-
Work closely with fabrication shop team to align on prefabricated assemblies, coordination of installation, logistics and schedule.
-
Oversee installation of BAS/BMS systems — including field coordination of installation crews, QA/QC inspections, resolution of installation issues, ensuring adherence to NFPA, manufacturer guidelines and open-platform integration standards.
-
Lead commissioning activities for BAS and mechanical/electrical systems to verify design intent, system performance, handover documentation, training of facility staff.
-
Monitor project performance, track key deliverables, financials (costs, revenue, margin), issue status reports, maintain project documentation and change management logs.
-
Serve as primary point of contact for the client on all matters of BAS project execution — anticipate their needs, manage expectations, provide updates, ensure satisfaction and address concerns proactively.
-
Foster strong collaboration between multi-discipline teams (MEP, controls, service/maintenance, energy services) to ensure seamless delivery and opportunities for integrated services (e.g., energy optimization, preventive maintenance).
-
Identify opportunities for upgrade, retrofit or ongoing service contracts with clients based on BAS system lifecycle management — support business development efforts in collaboration with sales/estimator teams.
-
Maintain awareness of building automation trends, open-platform technologies (e.g., Tridium, Distech Controls), energy services regulations and implement best-practice solutions.
Qualifications & Skills
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
-
Proven ability to deliver BAS/BMS projects on time, on budget, and meeting performance specifications.
-
Technical knowledge of BAS architecture, open-platform controls (e.g., Tridium, Distech Controls), integration of power monitoring systems, legacy system migration.
-
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (MEP) and their interactions with building automation.
-
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills — comfortable interfacing with clients, subcontractors, internal teams and executive stakeholders.
-
Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills — capable of juggling multiple priorities, navigating risk and driving results.
-
Demonstrated financial acumen: project budgeting, cost control, change management, margin awareness.
-
Willingness to travel as required to project sites (may include remote/field locations).
-
Certification in project management (PMP/PMI) or controls industry (e.g., NETA QEMC) is a plus.
