As a Building Automation Technician, you will play a critical role in installing, maintaining, and optimizing building automation systems across commercial and industrial facilities. Key Responsibilities
System Installation (Required)

  • Install and configure building automation components including sensors, controllers, actuators, VFDs, networked devices, and user interfaces.
  • Wire, terminate, and test low-voltage control systems to ensure safe and code-compliant installations.
  • Load and commission BAS programs under the guidance of engineering and project management teams.

System Maintenance & Troubleshooting (Required)

  • Diagnose and resolve issues across HVAC control systems, lighting controls, access controls, and integrated building subsystems.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to maximize equipment life and system reliability.
  • Calibrate sensors and verify system performance against design specifications.

System Optimization & Integration (Required)

  • Review system data, alarms, and trends to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Support integration of BAS with third-party systems (HVAC equipment, lighting, metering, security).
  • Assist in system retrofits and modernization initiatives for improved energy efficiency.

Documentation & Reporting (Required)

  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings, configuration logs, and service reports.
  • Provide clear communication to clients, project managers, and team leads regarding work progress, findings, and recommendations.

Client Support & Collaboration (Preferred)

  • Deliver front-line customer service by explaining system operations and assisting with user training.
  • Collaborate with contractors, electricians, HVAC technicians, and IT teams during project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, electrical systems, or related technical fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with diagnostics tools such as multimeters, airflow meters, and network testers.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC fundamentals, DDC controls, and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with platforms such as Niagara, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, or similar BAS frameworks.
  • Technical certifications (Niagara N4, Universal EPA 608, HVAC-R certifications, or manufacturer?specific training).
  • Experience with networked systems (BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP).
  • Associate degree in HVAC technology, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.

Required Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities.
  • Competency using laptops, BAS software tools, and mobile diagnostics equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and on cross-functional teams in the field.

Preferred Skills

  • Project coordination or field leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with energy management methodologies.
  • Comfort working directly with clients in a service-based environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements (Required)

  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other commercial/industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely use ladders, scissor lifts, and hand tools.
  • Regular travel between job sites within assigned territory.
