About the Role
This position plays a key part in delivering advanced building automation solutions that support energy efficiency, sustainability goals, and high-performance facility operations. The Building Automation Programmer will work with modern, web-based technologies to optimize HVAC, lighting, security, and integrated building systems, providing enhanced comfort, reduced operational costs, and real-time visibility into system performance.
The ideal candidate thrives in environments involving new construction, retrofits, and modernization projects, and brings deep hands-on experience with programming, integrating, and commissioning complex control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and program Building Automation Systems (BAS) including HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems.
- Develop and deploy Tridium Niagara frameworks, databases, graphics, logic, alarms, and trends.
- Configure and program Alerton BACtalk, Envision, Compass, or related platforms.
- Perform commissioning, functional testing, and field validation of BAS installations.
- Troubleshoot communication and integration issues involving BACnet, Modbus, LON, and IP-based systems.
- Build intuitive graphical interfaces and dashboards for system monitoring.
- Integrate third-party devices such as IAQ sensors, VFDs, lighting controls, and security equipment.
- Collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and project managers to ensure timely and accurate system delivery.
- Maintain documentation, backups, and accurate as-builts.
- Provide mentorship to junior programmers and technicians.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10 years of building automation programming experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Tridium Niagara (N4/AX) and strong understanding of Niagara workflows.
- Deep knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and other building automation communication protocols.
- Ability to interpret and program from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and sequences of operation.
- Practical knowledge of IP networking fundamentals, including addressing and switch configuration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on programming experience with Alerton systems.
- Experience with additional major BAS platforms.
- Background supporting mission-critical environments such as hospitals, data centers, or government facilities.
- Industry certifications such as Niagara N4, Alerton Certifications, or equivalent credentials.
