Role Summary
The HVAC/R Technical Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical training that supports workforce development, safety, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence across HVAC/R service and project teams. This role plays a critical part in technician onboarding, ongoing skill advancement, and career progression.
Key Responsibilities
Training Development & Delivery

Develop and deliver structured technical training programs for HVAC/R service technicians, installers, and apprentices.

Conduct hands-on classroom and field-based training for residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC/R systems.

Train employees on refrigeration cycles, electrical diagnostics, airflow, controls, combustion systems, and best practices for troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation.

Provide instruction on OSHA safety standards, EPA refrigerant compliance, and applicable state and local regulations.

Support onboarding and continuing education for both newly hired and experienced technicians.

Prepare lesson plans, training schedules, and lab environments to support effective instruction.

Maintain, update, and improve training manuals, documentation, and assessment tools.

Deliver targeted training on electrical schematics, commercial installation practices, and revenue generating service work.
Technician Development & Engagement

Build strong in-person relationships with technicians across service and project teams.

Evaluate technician skill levels and identify performance gaps.

Recommend individualized development plans and advancement pathways.

Provide on-site, job-specific coaching and technical instruction.

Serve as the primary internal resource for onboarding, technical training, safety education, and career development.
Program & Infrastructure Growth

Assist in the development and expansion of internal training labs and hands-on learning environments.

Develop competency based training modules and practical skill labs for service and project technicians.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of technician competency frameworks and training standards.
Technical & Industry Knowledge

Stay current with HVAC/R technologies, tools, codes, and manufacturer updates.

Train and support commercial systems including rooftop units, water source heat pumps, ice machines, and related equipment.

Understand and reinforce standardized maintenance procedures and documentation practices.

Qualifications

Extensive hands-on HVAC/R experience in residential, commercial, or industrial environments.

Proven ability to teach, coach, or mentor technical professionals.

Strong understanding of HVAC/R diagnostics, electrical systems, airflow, controls, and combustion.

Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Ability to develop structured training materials and deliver effective instruction in classroom and field settings.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a technical trainer, lead technician, supervisor, or field manager.
