Position Overview
The Building Automation Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering Building Automation System (BAS) projects from contract award through final closeout. This role oversees project planning, execution, financial performance, and client coordination while ensuring systems are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with contract documents. The position works closely with engineering, field operations, controls technicians, subcontractors, and end users to successfully deliver integrated automation solutions across commercial, industrial, healthcare, and institutional facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage BAS projects from kickoff through commissioning and turnover
  • Act as the primary point of contact for owners, engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts
  • Coordinate system design reviews, submittals, programming, installation, testing, and commissioning
  • Lead and support field teams, subcontractors, and controls technicians to meet quality and productivity goals
  • Track project progress and proactively manage scope changes, risks, and technical challenges
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations
  • Coordinate BAS integration with HVAC, mechanical, and energy management systems
  • Facilitate project meetings and provide regular status updates to stakeholders
  • Manage project closeout activities including documentation, training, and warranty support

Qualifications

  • Experience managing Building Automation or Controls projects
  • Demonstrated experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, Honeywell, or comparable systems
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, control sequences, and mechanical coordination
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with values typically ranging from $250,000 to $5 million or more
  • Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Ability to travel to job sites throughout the Pittsburgh metropolitan area
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field
  • Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
  • Familiarity with BIM, 3D coordination, or integrated project delivery methods
  • Knowledge of energy management systems, analytics, and commissioning processes
  • Previous experience working for a mechanical contractor or controls integrator
