About the Role
A growing building systems and controls provider is seeking a skilled Building Automation Technician / Programmer to support commercial and institutional projects throughout the Tampa Bay area. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who enjoys working with advanced building automation technologies and takes pride in delivering reliable, energy?efficient, and fully integrated building systems.

The position focuses on the installation, programming, commissioning, and service of building automation systems that support HVAC, lighting controls, energy optimization, and enterprise level integration. The technician/programmer will work closely with project teams and customers to ensure systems operate efficiently, securely, and in alignment with design intent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, program, commission, and service building automation systems for HVAC and integrated building systems
  • Develop and modify control logic, sequences of operation, alarms, schedules, and system graphics
  • Perform system start-ups, point-to-point checkout, functional performance testing, and troubleshooting
  • Integrate legacy control systems into modern, web-based enterprise platforms
  • Support energy optimization strategies including scheduling, reset strategies, demand based control, and performance tuning
  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and field technicians to deliver projects on schedule
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers and facility staff
  • Document programming changes, system configurations, service findings, and commissioning results

 

Required Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience with building automation systems in commercial or institutional environments
  • Demonstrated experience programming, installing, and servicing HVAC control systems
  • Working knowledge of BACnet and open protocol control architectures
  • Ability to troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, field wiring, and network communication issues
  • Ability to read and understand control drawings, wiring diagrams, and written sequences of operation
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to job sites
  • Strong communication skills and a customer focused, professional approach

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Tridium Niagara, Alerton, ABB, or comparable BAS platforms
  • Familiarity with energy dashboards, fault detection and diagnostics, and building performance analytics
  • Experience integrating lighting controls, electrical metering, or security systems
  • Basic IT and networking knowledge including IP addressing and network troubleshooting
  • Industry certifications related to building automation, HVAC controls, or commissioning
  • Experience supporting healthcare, data centers, government facilities, or large commercial buildings
