Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced BAS Operations Supervisor / Lead Technician to oversee the performance, maintenance, and optimization of building automation systems across a portfolio of commercial facilities. This role blends technical leadership with hands-on expertise, guiding a team of technicians while ensuring systems operate efficiently, securely, and with maximum ROI. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of BAS technicians responsible for installation, service, and support of building automation systems
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and system optimization
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex BAS/DDC issues across HVAC controls, sensors, and network infrastructure
- Manage integrated building systems leveraging open protocols (e.g., BACnet) to ensure seamless interoperability
- Coordinate with facility operators to streamline maintenance workflows, including automated work orders and inspection triggers
- Monitor system performance using real-time data and analytics to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions
- Ensure systems maintain occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and security standards
- Maintain accurate documentation for systems, service records, and operational procedures
- Enforce safety protocols and compliance with all applicable codes and standards
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding system performance, upgrades, and ongoing initiatives
Key Responsibilities (Preferred)
- Drive adoption of smart building technologies such as occupancy sensors, analytics platforms, and natural language interfaces
- Lead system integration efforts to eliminate redundancies and unify infrastructure across facilities
- Support system design improvements and capital upgrade planning to maximize long-term ROI
- Train and mentor technicians, developing technical skills and career growth pathways
- Assist in customer-facing discussions, presenting technical solutions and performance outcomes
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in BAS, DDC controls, or building automation systems
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience within a technical or service environment
- Strong expertise in open protocols such as BACnet and system integration concepts
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC control systems and networked devices
- Proficiency with BAS software platforms and graphical user interfaces
- Solid understanding of electrical systems, mechanical systems, and control logic
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel between sites as needed
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in HVAC, electrical engineering, building systems, or related field
- Experience with multiple BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara Framework, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric)
- Knowledge of IP networking, cybersecurity principles for building systems, and IoT integration
- Familiarity with data analytics tools and energy management strategies
- OSHA certification or advanced safety training credentials
Leadership & Team Scope
- Supervise a team of 3–10 BAS technicians (typical range; may vary by organization)
- Direct responsibility for scheduling, workload management, and performance oversight
- Key contributor to operational strategy and continuous improvement initiatives
