Position Overview
As an HVAC Controls Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and supporting building automation control systems in collaboration with customers, sales teams, and project stakeholders. You will translate technical requirements into detailed system designs, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Sales and Account Managers to align project designs with customer expectations
  • Communicate with building owners, contractors, and field teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • Review project scopes and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Participate in project turnover meetings to assess estimates and design requirements
  • Select cost-effective components and installation methods
  • Develop detailed design documentation, including system layouts and electrical drawings
  • Provide technical guidance and support to installation and field teams
  • Design network architecture for building automation systems (controllers and operator workstations)
  • Create HVAC equipment sequences of operation
  • Coordinate and manage ordering of materials and system components
  • Partner with Project Managers to ensure proper installation and system functionality
  • Develop operations and maintenance (O&M) manuals
  • Support troubleshooting and system optimization as needed

 

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of technical education and relevant field experience
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and basic IT/networking concepts
  • Solid computer skills and electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and visual)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments, including high-pressure situations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Familiarity with LON and BACnet communication protocols
  • Prior experience designing HVAC controls or automation systems
  • Industry experience in commercial or industrial building environments
  • Knowledge of system integration and advanced controls strategies
