BAS Engineer – Denver Colorado

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer to support the design, programming, integration, commissioning, and optimization of advanced building automation systems across commercial, healthcare, higher education, industrial, and mission-critical facilities throughout the Greater Denver area.

The BAS Engineer serves as a technical leader responsible for developing control strategies, programming DDC systems, supporting project execution, and ensuring building systems operate efficiently and reliably. This position works closely with project managers, field technicians, subcontractors, and customers to deliver innovative automation solutions that enhance occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and facility performance.

Key Responsibilities

Required

  • Design and develop BAS control strategies and sequences of operation based on project requirements and engineering specifications
  • Configure, program, and troubleshoot DDC control systems
  • Develop and modify control logic, graphics, alarms, trend logs, reports, and user interfaces
  • Review mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings for system implementation
  • Support project planning, engineering, and technical execution from design through commissioning
  • Perform system integration between BAS platforms and third-party systems
  • Develop point databases, network architectures, controller applications, and system documentation
  • Participate in startup, testing, commissioning, and functional performance verification activities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC, controls, networking, and integration issues
  • Provide technical guidance and support to BAS Technicians, installers, and commissioning teams
  • Generate and maintain project documentation, including as-built drawings, control narratives, and turnover packages
  • Coordinate activities with project managers, consulting engineers, contractors, and end users
  • Conduct owner training and system demonstrations
  • Ensure projects are completed according to schedule, budget, and quality expectations
  • Travel locally throughout the Greater Denver metropolitan area as required

  • Lead commissioning activities on complex BAS projects
  • Support energy optimization and system analytics initiatives
  • Develop standardized programming libraries and engineering best practices
  • Participate in design-build pursuits and project estimating
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technicians

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and industry experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Building Automation Systems or DDC controls
  • Experience programming commercial BAS platforms
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control sequences, and mechanical equipment operation
  • Knowledge of control theory, PID loops, and building automation applications
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, controls, and construction drawings
  • Experience troubleshooting controls, HVAC, and electrical systems
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project sites throughout the Denver area
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Preferred

  • 5+ years of BAS engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, MQTT, or other building integration protocols
  • Experience with healthcare, laboratory, data center, higher education, or industrial facilities
  • Experience supporting design-build or retrofit projects
  • Systems integration and network configuration experience

  • Excellent customer-facing communication skills
  • Strong technical writing and documentation capabilities

  • Energy management and analytics experience
  • Cybersecurity awareness related to connected building systems
  • Experience with enterprise building management systems
  • Familiarity with commissioning standards and industry best practices
