Job Summary
A leading mechanical design-build contractor is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with strong technical expertise, demonstrated leadership skills, and career growth aspirations. The organization delivers highly technical projects through collaborative design-build and design-assist delivery methods. Projects commonly include laboratories, cleanrooms, office buildings, process systems, and data centers.

This position is responsible for the creation of mechanical construction documents and provides engineering support to internal departments. The successful candidate will serve as a technical resource and leader within the engineering team while contributing to project delivery from concept through completion.

Essential Job Functions
Required:

  1. Prepare construction documents for in-house design-build projects, including Conceptual Design, Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Document (CD) phases in collaboration with preconstruction and CAD teams.
  2. Support project pursuits through conceptual designs, one-line diagrams, preliminary system selections, energy analyses, code reviews, and participation in project interviews.
  3. Perform final quality reviews of engineering work and seal/sign documents as required.
  4. Lead coordination efforts with architects, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  5. Evaluate design parameters and develop system solutions that meet both technical and budgetary requirements.
  6. Perform heating, ventilation, and air conditioning load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection while applying applicable codes and standards.
  7. Participate in all project phases, including conceptual design, engineering analysis, sustainability documentation, construction observation, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and project closeout.
  8. Establish and manage engineering design budgets with project management and preconstruction teams.
  9. Conduct field surveys of existing buildings to support renovation and new construction projects.
  10. Provide technical expertise and support to other departments.
  11. Serve as a technical leader and mentor for engineers and designers.
  12. Participate in local professional organizations and industry-related activities.
  13. Maintain regular and reliable attendance to meet position requirements.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • 7 to 10 years of engineering experience with mechanical design-build projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with employees, clients, and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment while adapting to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with laboratory, cleanroom, process system, healthcare, mission-critical, or data center projects.
  • Experience supporting sustainable design initiatives and building performance analysis.
  • Active participation in professional engineering organizations.
