Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Senior Systems Specialist to design, commission, program, and implement BAS databases and graphics for commercial real estate customers. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality automation solutions, supporting project execution, providing technical leadership, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout all phases of system deployment.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in building automation controls, HVAC systems, and network communications with exceptional troubleshooting, communication, and project coordination skills. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex commercial projects while contributing to a collaborative and customer-focused team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, commission, service, and implement BAS systems.
  • Create BAS databases, graphics, and system integrations.
  • Oversee the setup, installation, and configuration of BAS hardware and field devices.
  • Perform network setup, configuration, and troubleshooting, including IP-based and RS-485 communication networks.
  • Conduct point-to-point verification and validation of all input/output (I/O) devices.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular status updates to management.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to BAS team members.
  • Ensure all installations meet quality standards and company best practices.
  • Maintain safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Manage and maintain company-issued tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Complete accurate documentation, including timecards, service reports, inspection records, and project notes.
  • Communicate proactively with internal project teams and customer contacts regarding project status, site arrival, progress, and completion.
  • Assist with project leadership and coordination within the BAS department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a BAS Systems Specialist or equivalent building automation experience.
  • Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • Proficiency with BAS software and communication protocols.
  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:
    • Tridium Niagara AX
    • Tridium Niagara N4 Workbench
    • Distech GFX
    • Honeywell Spyder Tool
    • Johnson Controls CCT/PCT
  • Experience working with BACnet and/or LonWorks control systems.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking concepts and network troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience troubleshooting low-voltage control systems.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC equipment, including:
    • Chillers
    • Boilers
    • Packaged rooftop units
    • Air handling equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, engineering plans, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience installing and terminating low-voltage wiring.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or weekends as project requirements dictate.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Valid driver’s license with a minimum of three years of driving history.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading BAS installation or commissioning teams.
  • Advanced Niagara N4 programming and integration experience.
  • Experience with multi-site commercial real estate portfolios.
  • Industry certifications related to building automation, controls, networking, or HVAC systems.
  • Experience supporting complex system integrations and enterprise-level BAS deployments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, materials, and tools weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to work on ladders, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform manual tasks for extended periods.

Work Environment

This position involves work at commercial buildings, construction sites, and occupied facilities. Employees will routinely interact with building owners, property managers, general contractors, and internal project teams while maintaining professional communication and high-quality workmanship standards.
