Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced BAS Assistant Engineering Manager to support engineering operations and lead the design and delivery of building automation projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on BAS expert with approximately 10 years of experience and advanced knowledge of Distech Controls, Niagara Framework, and/or Automated Logic Controls (ALC).
This role works closely with the Engineering Manager, project managers, engineers, programmers, and field teams to ensure projects meet technical, quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with managing engineering schedules, workloads, and project priorities.
- Lead and review BAS designs, control drawings, network architecture, sequences of operation, point lists, submittals, and bills of material.
- Create and maintain technical drawings and system diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to BAS engineers, programmers, and technicians.
- Support programming, system integration, startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer acceptance.
- Identify design risks, scope gaps, and technical issues before they affect project delivery.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, consulting engineers, vendors, and customers.
- Improve engineering standards, templates, processes, and quality-control procedures.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex BAS, HVAC, networking, and integration issues.
Required Qualifications
- Approximately 10 or more years of building automation, HVAC controls, DDC, or controls engineering experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of at least one of the following platforms:
- Distech Controls
- Niagara Framework
- Automated Logic Controls (ALC)
- Ability to work exclusively with Distech Controls, Niagara, and ALC systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visio.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, BAS architecture, BACnet, networking, programming, and third-party integrations.
- Experience reading mechanical plans, specifications, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, troubleshooting, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with two or all three supported BAS platforms.
- Niagara 4, Distech Controls, or ALC training and certifications.
- Previous experience as a Lead BAS Engineer, Senior Controls Engineer, or engineering supervisor.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of additional BAS products, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, IP networking, cybersecurity, analytics, or energy optimization.
