Job Title: BAS Design Engineer / Programmer / Project Manager

Position Summary
Seeking a versatile Building Automation Systems (BAS) professional to serve in a hybrid role combining design engineering, programming, and project management. This individual will act as an application engineer responsible for helping to run projects from design through execution, with partial ownership of job performance and outcomes. The role offers flexibility in daily responsibilities, balancing office-based engineering/programming work with approximately 50% field involvement across new construction and retrofit projects in a wide variety of commercial verticals.
Key Responsibilities
• Design BAS solutions for HVAC and mechanical systems, including control strategies and system architecture
• Program building automation systems using platforms such as Tridium Niagara and Reliable Controls
• Develop control drawings and layouts using AutoCAD and/or Visio
• Support project execution as an application engineer, collaborating with project managers and field teams
• Manage multiple BAS projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and client expectations
• Participate in system startups, commissioning, and field troubleshooting (approximately 50% on-site)
• Coordinate with contractors, electricians, and mechanical teams during installation and integration
• Assist in project financial accountability, including tracking job performance and supporting profitability goals
• Work across both new construction and retrofit environments
• Interface directly with clients to ensure system functionality and satisfaction
• Identify system optimization opportunities and support energy efficiency improvements
Required Qualifications
• Eexperience in BAS, HVAC controls, or building automation
• Hands-on experience with BAS programming (required: Tridium Niagara and/or Reliable Controls)
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Visio for control design and documentation
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control sequences
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a flexible, hybrid role (engineering, programming, project support)
• Willingness and ability to spend approximately 50% of time on job sites
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Solid communication skills for client and team interaction
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within the Philadelphia region
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Experience in an application engineer or hybrid PM/engineering role
• Familiarity with project financial tracking, job costing, or budgeting (light exposure acceptable)
• Experience with both retrofit and ground-up construction BAS projects
• Exposure to diverse vertical markets such as healthcare, commercial office, industrial, and institutional facilities
• Knowledge of BAS integrations (BACnet, Modbus, IP-based systems)
