Position Summary
The Automation Operations Manager will lead and coordinate all automation department activities across the Georgia and Alabama service territories. This leadership role is responsible for driving exceptional customer satisfaction, achieving departmental growth objectives, and maximizing profitability. Success will be accomplished through strategic process implementation, operational excellence, resource optimization, and the development of a high-performing team supporting both controls service and project-based operations.

Required Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the automation department across Georgia and Alabama.
  • Drive a zero-injury safety culture and partner with safety leadership to promote safe work practices and accident-free operations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor standardized processes and best practices across controls service and project teams.
  • Champion customer satisfaction through proactive communication, effective problem-solving, and delivery of high-quality service solutions.
  • Develop and execute strategies that increase departmental revenue, profitability, and market growth.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
  • Implement corrective actions when performance goals are not being achieved.
  • Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, accountability, and teamwork across all automation personnel.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and maintain employee development, training, certification, and compensation records.
  • Manage personnel, scheduling, forecasting, budgeting, tools, equipment, and training resources.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and present departmental performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, operations, project management, finance, and other business units to achieve company objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competitive activity, and emerging automation technologies.
  • Support sales efforts through scope reviews, estimating assistance, site assessments, customer meetings, and project development activities.
  • Perform advanced technical field work and assist with complex automation projects when required.

 

Preferred Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives focused on continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and technical staff to build long-term organizational capability.
  • Identify opportunities to expand automation services and strengthen customer relationships.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in the building automation, controls, or automation industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing service and/or project teams.
  • Knowledge of multiple controls platforms and manufacturers.
  • Experience with building automation technologies including Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, Distech, or comparable systems.
  • Ability to perform technical field duties and support complex troubleshooting efforts.
  • Proven record of driving customer satisfaction, business growth, and profitability.
  • Strong understanding of controls service operations and project-based delivery models.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience utilizing business systems and reporting tools to monitor operational performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Georgia and Alabama as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturer certifications in building automation or controls systems.
  • Experience managing multi-location or multi-state automation operations.
  • Advanced project management, budgeting, and forecasting experience.
  • Experience leading organizational growth initiatives and process transformation programs.
