Position Summary
The Building Automation Project Manager leads building automation system (BAS) projects from initial planning through final commissioning and closeout. This role is well suited for a Senior BAS Technician with 4–5 years of hands-on experience who is ready to transition into project management while continuing to leverage strong technical expertise.
The Project Manager serves as the primary point of coordination between customers, internal engineering teams, field technicians, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Required

Manage multiple building automation projects from contract award through commissioning and turnover

Serve as the primary customer contact for assigned projects

Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and documentation

Coordinate system design reviews, equipment selection, and integration requirements

Oversee installation, programming, commissioning, and functional testing activities

Track labor hours, material costs, change orders, and overall project financial performance

Ensure compliance with contract documents, safety standards, and quality expectations

Provide technical support and guidance to field technicians during project execution

Lead project meetings and provide clear, consistent status updates to stakeholders

Participation in early design-phase planning and pre-construction coordination

Identification of energy-saving opportunities and system optimization strategies

Support of continuous improvement initiatives for project delivery and documentation

Mentoring or coaching of technicians transitioning into advanced roles
Required Qualifications

4–5 years of experience as a Building Automation or Controls Technician

Strong understanding of BAS platforms, HVAC systems, and control strategies

Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Comfort managing multiple priorities in an active construction environment

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience leading projects, crews, or large system installations

Experience with system integration such as lighting, metering, or other building systems

Familiarity with commissioning processes and performance verification

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
