Position Summary
The Building Automation Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful execution of Building Automation System (BAS) and HVAC controls projects from project kickoff through closeout. This role oversees scope, schedule, budget, subcontractors, and client communication while ensuring technical excellence, profitability, and a high-quality customer experience. The position plays a critical role in delivering intelligent building solutions across commercial, industrial, and institutional environments.

Key Responsibilities
Required

  • Manage multiple BAS and controls projects simultaneously, typically ranging from $250,000 to $5 million in total project value
  • Lead projects from pre-construction planning through commissioning and final turnover
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, controls technicians, construction teams, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and change orders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, and consulting engineers
  • Ensure all projects comply with contract documents, safety requirements, and quality standards
  • Oversee system integration, functional testing, commissioning support, and documentation delivery
  • Track project financial performance to ensure margin and revenue targets are achieved
  • Maintain accurate project records, reporting, and closeout documentation

Preferred

  • Support pre-sales activities, estimating, and scope development for building automation opportunities
  • Mentor junior project managers or controls coordinators
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the controls and automation group

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience within building automation, HVAC controls, or mechanical systems
  • Hands-on experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium Niagara, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sequences of operation, and system integration
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships
  • Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office tools
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to job sites throughout the Charlotte region

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CAPM, or manufacturer-specific controls training
  • Experience working for a mechanical contractor or controls integrator
  • Familiarity with energy optimization, analytics, and smart building technologies
  • Experience supporting healthcare, industrial, or large commercial facilities
