Job Title: Controls Senior Project/Operations Manager
Location: Andover, MA

Base Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 (depending on experience and leadership capability)
Position Summary
A growing energy services and building automation provider is seeking a hands-on, self-driven BAS to lead and scale its controls division. The organization has rapidly expanded its controls-related revenue from approximately $750K to $2–3M over the past two years and is transitioning more work from subcontracted delivery to in-house execution.
This role is ideal for a technically strong leader with field experience who is ready to take ownership of programming, project delivery, and team development. You will start by operating lean, personally driving execution while mentoring a small team, and progressively build out a full controls department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, programming, integration, and execution of building automation/controls systems
- Manage and grow a controls team, initially including a Controls Engineer/Project Coordinator, with plans to scale
- Bring subcontracted controls work in-house to improve margins, quality, and delivery consistency
- Oversee integration and commissioning across platforms such as Johnson Controls, Niagara, and Metasys
- Act as a senior-level project manager for controls work, including budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
- Support an 8-person sales team with technical scoping, proposals, and solution validation
- Establish repeatable processes, standards, and best practices for programming and implementation
- Serve as the technical leader, troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring successful delivery
- Recruit, mentor, and develop talent, particularly individuals coming from OEM or field-based backgrounds
Required Qualifications
- Experience in building automation systems (BAS) or controls, including hands-on programming and integration
- Proven experience managing projects at a senior project manager level
- Strong expertise with at least one major controls platform (Johnson Controls, Niagara, or Metasys)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and build systems/processes from the ground up
- Field experience in installation, commissioning, or service of controls systems
- Ability to lead projects end-to-end, including customer interaction and delivery accountability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or scaling a controls team or department
- Background working for an OEM or controls manufacturer
- Experience with municipal or K–12 projects
- Familiarity with energy efficiency programs, utility rebates, or similar initiatives
- Exposure to HVAC systems, retrofits, and energy conservation measures
