About the Role
The HVAC Controls Technician plays a critical role in ensuring high performing, reliable building automation systems for our customers. This position combines technical expertise with customer facing service, supporting system installation, programming, start-up, commissioning, maintenance, and optimization. You will be the go to resource for troubleshooting and enhancing HVAC system performance, keeping buildings comfortable, safe, and energy efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Troubleshoot and optimize DDC control systems, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and timely.
- Execute software and software/hardware upgrades to automation platforms.
- Conduct preventive tasks such as database backups, system performance analysis, network diagnostics, and device testing.
- Lead small-scale retrofit installation projects, ensuring high quality execution.
- Diagnose issues in both control systems and mechanical HVAC equipment.
- Maintain strong, proactive communication with customers to ensure satisfaction and transparency.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally while delivering efficient, effective service.
Experience / Job Skills
- 2–5 years of experience in BAS installation, start-up, and commissioning.
- Competency with BAS functionality: software, engineering tools, commissioning tools, DDC controllers, and field devices.
- Knowledge of BACnet and/or LonWorks fundamentals.
- Strong computer skills, including basic networking concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret low-voltage electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
- Proficiency using test instruments and calibration tools.
- Understanding of HVAC system functions and sequences of operation.
Preferred
- Experience with Niagara AX and/or Niagara 4 platforms.
- Niagara certification (AX or N4).
- Experience working with Distech Controls or other Niagara-based systems.
General Requirements
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general PC tools.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Clean driving record.
