Position Summary
The Building Automation Operations Manager oversees all operational aspects of building automation, temperature controls, and integrated security system projects. This leader manages team performance, project delivery, field operations, scheduling, customer satisfaction, and adherence to organizational standards. The role requires a strong construction?operations mindset, exceptional cross?functional coordination skills, and the ability to guide a large technical workforce.

Key Responsibilities (Required)

  • Manage day?to?day operations for building automation and HVAC controls projects from planning through turnover.
  • Lead a multi?discipline team of engineers, technicians, installers, and supervisors (typically 10–25 personnel, depending on active workload).
  • Oversee scheduling, labor planning, and resource allocation to ensure efficient execution.
  • Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols and enforce consistent job?site standards.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and aligned with internal quality procedures.
  • Direct procurement activities, including equipment, materials, subcontractors, and specialized services.
  • Manage issue escalation, technical troubleshooting, and operational challenges.
  • Communicate regularly with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain alignment and satisfaction.
  • Monitor operational KPIs, labor utilization, project profitability, and workflow efficiency.
  • Conduct quality reviews to ensure accurate commissioning, system functionality, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities (Preferred)

  • Lead operational process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy, or service delivery.
  • Support estimating, scope development, or customer presentations when needed.
  • Mentor developing leaders or senior technicians to expand internal leadership capability.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or a closely related construction technology field.
  • 3+ years of leadership, operations management, or project management experience.
  • Strong technical understanding of building automation platforms, temperature?control systems, or low?voltage integration.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and teams in a fast?paced environment.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling, cost control, and operational reporting.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and control system drawings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across customers, field teams, and construction partners.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to visit project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with leading BAS platforms such as Distech, Niagara, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, or comparable systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with large campuses, healthcare facilities, industrial operations, or mission?critical environments.
  • Leadership experience across multi?location or multi?discipline operations.
