Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Building Automation Programmer to support energy efficiency, infrastructure modernization, and decarbonization projects across a diverse portfolio of customer facilities in the Cincinnati region. This role is responsible for programming, commissioning, optimizing, and supporting building automation and energy management systems that improve operational efficiency, occupant comfort, system reliability, and long-term energy performance.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical controls experience, a practical field mindset, and a passion for intelligent buildings and sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Required:

  • Program, configure, and commission building automation systems (BAS) for HVAC, lighting, metering, and integrated building systems
  • Develop and modify control logic, sequences of operation, schedules, alarms, and graphical user interfaces
  • Perform point-to-point checkout, functional performance testing, and system validation
  • Troubleshoot BAS hardware, software, network, and communication issues
  • Optimize system performance to support energy efficiency, cost reduction, and reliability objectives
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, electricians, and commissioning agents to deliver projects on schedule
  • Support projects from installation through commissioning, warranty, and post occupancy phases
  • Create and maintain accurate programming documentation, as-built drawings, and controls narratives
  • Train facility staff on system operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting

Preferred:

  • Participate in retro-commissioning and continuous commissioning initiatives
  • Support analytics driven fault detection and diagnostics (FDD)
  • Assist with integration of renewable energy systems, energy storage, or advanced metering
  • Contribute to standardized programming libraries and best practices

 

Qualifications
Required:

  • Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in controls, automation, HVAC, electrical, or related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience programming building automation systems
  • Working knowledge of BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and control sequences
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within the Cincinnati area

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, automation, or related discipline
  • Niagara N4 or comparable BAS platform certification
  • Experience supporting energy efficiency or performance based projects
  • Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP-based control networks
  • Experience working in healthcare, higher education, government, data center, or large commercial facilities

 

Base Salary:

  • $85,000 – $110,000 annually, based on experience, certifications, and technical depth
