About the Role
This role is essential in delivering high?performance building systems through the programming, integration, and commissioning of Building Automation Systems (BAS). You will support mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, fabrication, and specialty systems by creating automation sequences that maximize efficiency, operational reliability, safety, and long-term system performance. You will work with a wide variety of mechanical equipment and technology platforms, ensuring every project operates correctly from startup through sustained facility operation.

Key Responsibilities (Required)

  • Program, configure, and commission Building Automation Systems across commercial, industrial, and institutional applications.
  • Develop and implement sequences for HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air handlers, VAVs, exhaust systems, and specialized mechanical equipment.
  • Integrate controls with mechanical systems such as plumbing, pipefitting, sheet metal installations, and mechanical insulation packages.
  • Conduct onsite startup, functional testing, troubleshooting, and final commissioning to verify performance.
  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and control schematics to build logically accurate BAS programs.
  • Document control logic, point lists, sequence narratives, and revisions for internal and customer use.
  • Provide after-hours emergency support on a rotating basis to maintain system uptime.
  • Collaborate with project managers, design teams, installation crews, and service technicians to ensure precise, timely project delivery.
  • Ensure all work meets code standards, safety requirements, and system performance specifications.

 

Additional Responsibilities (Preferred)

  • Support design-build project teams by contributing early-stage automation strategies.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Assist with automation needs related to specialized areas such as marine HVAC, medical gas piping, fabricated mechanical systems, or large-scale boiler/chiller plants.
  • Contribute to the development of internal programming standards and best practices.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience programming or commissioning BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, and similar).
  • Strong understanding of HVAC fundamentals, hydronic systems, refrigeration cycles, boilers, chillers, VAVs, and mechanical control logic.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical, electrical, and control drawings.
  • Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, IP networks, and device integration.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to visit job sites.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls/automation, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in design-build environments or contractor-led system integration settings.
  • Experience with marine HVAC automation or specialized mechanical system controls.
  • Industry certifications such as Niagara N4, JCI, Honeywell, or similar.
  • Background working alongside plumbing, pipefitting, fabrication, or mechanical installation teams.
