We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex building automation system (BAS) projects across commercial and industrial facilities in the Detroit area. This role is ideal for a technically strong, detail-oriented leader who thrives in fast-paced construction environments and is passionate about delivering high-quality, energy-efficient automation solutions that exceed client expectations.
The Building Automation Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating internal teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities

Manage multiple building automation projects from kickoff through closeout, with typical project values ranging from $250,000 to $5M

Serve as the primary liaison between clients, engineers, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors

Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans

Oversee system design coordination, submittals, programming schedules, commissioning activities, and documentation

Lead project meetings, including kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and closeout meetings

Track project costs, manage change orders, and forecast project financial performance

Ensure compliance with contract requirements, codes, safety standards, and quality expectations

Collaborate closely with field supervisors and technicians to resolve technical and scheduling challenges

Support commissioning, system turnover, and client training to ensure long-term system performance and customer satisfaction

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work is executed in accordance with established safety programs
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience

5+ years of project management experience within building automation, HVAC controls, or related mechanical/electrical systems

Proven experience managing BAS projects from design through commissioning

Strong working knowledge of building automation systems, including DDC controls, networking, and integration with HVAC equipment

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, control schematics, and specifications

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites throughout the Detroit metro area
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with major BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, or similar systems

LEED project experience or familiarity with energy-efficient and sustainable building practices

PMP or other project management certification

Experience working in union construction environments

Background managing healthcare, industrial, higher education, or large commercial projects
Work Environment
This role combines office-based project planning with regular visits to active construction sites.
