Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced BAS Programmer to join our growing team in the Tampa, Florida market. This role is responsible for programming, integrating, commissioning, and supporting advanced building automation systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial and institutional projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in HVAC controls, system integration, and building automation software, with specific experience programming and commissioning Distech Controls systems.
This position offers the opportunity to work on complex and highly visible projects while collaborating with engineers, project managers, technicians, and end users to deliver high-performing, energy-efficient building automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, configure, and commission Building Automation Systems for new construction and retrofit projects.
- Develop and modify control sequences for HVAC equipment including AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and central plant systems.
- Configure system databases, graphics, trends, alarms, schedules, and reporting functions.
- Integrate third-party devices and systems using open protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and TCP/IP networks.
- Perform point-to-point verification, startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Troubleshoot software, communications, controller, and integration issues.
- Create and maintain project documentation including control drawings, as-built records, and programming backups.
- Collaborate with project managers and field technicians to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.
- Provide technical support and training to customers, operators, and service personnel.
- Assist with system upgrades, retrofits, and modernization projects.
- Support ongoing service contracts, optimization initiatives, and energy management programs.
Required Qualifications
- Building Automation Systems programming experience.
- Hands-on experience with Distech Controls programming, commissioning, and system integration.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control strategies, and mechanical system operation.
- Experience with BACnet and other open communication protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex BAS software and network issues.
- Knowledge of graphical user interfaces, trend logs, alarms, and enterprise-level BAS platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and sequences of operation.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Tampa Bay region for project support.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Distech Controls certification or advanced training.
- Experience supporting hospitals, universities, data centers, government facilities, or mission-critical environments.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, HVAC, Controls, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with energy management and facility optimization initiatives.
