Our client specializes in commercial HVAC design, installation, and service. The company is evolving into advanced energy engineering solutions for large building owners, with expertise in energy services, LEED certification, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.


Overall Position Description:

The Controls Engineer will design and create engineered control drawings, databases, and programs for direct digital control systems. This role reports to the Systems Integration Leader within the Integrated Building Services department.


Key Responsibilities:

  • BAS Project Installation & Verification:
  • Serve as engineering contact for project collaboration.
  • Respond to subcontractors to clarify specifications.
  • Document installations for “as-built” controls drawings.
  • Organize and create BAS project sequences per specifications.
  • Controls Engineering & Design:
  • Develop control sequences, engineered drawings, and schematics.
  • Interpret project plans and translate into operational sequences.
  • Generate AutoCAD and Visio drawings for submittal packages.
  • Verify materials and collaborate with estimating teams.
  • Programming & Database Creation:
  • Build and manage BAS databases and field-level programs.
  • Support field technicians during implementation and commissioning.
  • Maintain standardized programming templates and stay updated on BAS software.
  • Communications & Support:
  • Provide technical assistance to HVAC technicians.
  • Mentor junior technicians and assist with training plans.
  • Conduct customer training when needed.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain documentation to meet BAS project requirements.
  • Review paperwork with Project Manager and System Integration Manager.
  • Work Habits:
  • Prioritize workload, ensure accuracy, and seek efficiency improvements.
  • Foster positive client relationships and adapt to changing priorities.

    Qualifications:

    • Required:
    • BS in engineering or technology OR 2-year diploma with 10 years BAS experience.
    • Background in electronics, programming, or mechanical technology.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
    • Valid driver’s license.
  • Desired:
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • AutoCAD 2D proficiency.
  • Tridium AX/N4 design knowledge.
  • Distech Controls certification (ASC and ECY series).
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills.
