Overview
A leading provider of commercial HVAC and integrated building solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics to support the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky market. This role serves as the primary mechanical engineering resource, delivering practical, engineered solutions for construction projects, retrofit opportunities, design-build work, and system improvement initiatives.
You will partner closely with Sales, Project Managers, Estimators, and field leadership to assess customer needs, evaluate existing systems, and support projects from concept through construction, startup, and closeout. This position is ideal for a technically strong, field-oriented engineer who can balance performance, cost, constructability, and long-term reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary engineering resource for construction, retrofit, repair, replacement, and system improvement projects.
- Provide expertise in HVAC and hydronic systems, including chilled water, hot water, steam, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, piping, and ventilation systems.
- Support projects across commercial, industrial, healthcare, and higher education facilities.
- Review specifications, drawings, and system conditions to develop practical engineered solutions.
- Prepare system layouts, equipment selections, technical documentation, and scopes of work.
- Contribute to load calculations, pipe sizing, system performance, energy efficiency, and code compliance.
Customer Solutions & Sales Support
- Partner with Sales and estimating teams to evaluate customer needs and identify system improvement opportunities.
- Develop solutions for retrofits, upgrades, energy optimization, and reliability improvements.
- Participate in client meetings as a technical expert, explaining system conditions and recommendations.
- Support proposal development with conceptual designs and budget guidance.
- Build strong relationships with customers, facility managers, and internal stakeholders.
Project Execution & Field Support
- Collaborate with Project Managers and field leadership on planning, coordination, installation, and commissioning.
- Provide engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with troubleshooting, constructability questions, and system performance challenges.
- Review submittals, drawings, and equipment selections for accuracy.
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions and support issue resolution.
- Support as-built documentation and project closeout deliverables.
Collaboration, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Work cross-functionally with sales, operations, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Communicate technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Balance engineering best practices with budget, schedule, and field realities.
- Maintain knowledge of codes, energy standards, and industry practices.
- Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and project outcomes.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of commercial/industrial HVAC and hydronic systems.
- Experience supporting construction, retrofit, design-build, or system improvement projects.
- Ability to evaluate existing systems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Working knowledge of load calculations, equipment selection, and mechanical codes.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
Preferred
- 5+ years of HVAC or mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience in mechanical contracting, MEP, or construction environments.
- Background in design-build or retrofit projects.
- Experience collaborating with sales, estimating, and field teams.
- Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Carrier HAP, or Trace 3D Plus.
