Key Responsibilities & Duties

Analyze project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop detailed and accurate mechanical cost estimates

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and operations teams to define scope, assumptions, and project requirements

Review and interpret mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC drawings, schematics, and schedules

Utilize estimating software and spreadsheets to prepare labor, material, and equipment takeoffs

Evaluate and select appropriate materials, equipment, and subcontractors to optimize cost and performance

Prepare, review, and submit competitive bid proposals for commercial and industrial mechanical projects

Conduct risk assessments, identify cost drivers, and develop mitigation strategies during the estimating phase

Track estimated costs against project budgets and support cost control efforts post-award

Communicate with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors to obtain current and accurate pricing

Assist with contract negotiations and scope finalization prior to project award

Monitor project progress and provide cost-related guidance when deviations from the estimate occur

Support project teams during execution to help ensure estimated costs and margins are achieved
Required Qualifications & Skills

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the construction industry

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and related components
-
Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and blueprints

Proficiency with estimating software and tools

Advanced analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills

Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management abilities

Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

Experience estimating commercial and industrial mechanical projects

Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements

Strong negotiation skills and experience working directly with vendors and subcontractors

Experience supporting projects through post-award execution and cost tracking
