Job Summary
A leading mechanical services organization is seeking an HVAC and Plumbing Estimator to support a diverse portfolio of construction projects. This role is responsible for managing the full estimating life cycle, from initial inquiry and collaboration with the sales team through final bid submission. The Estimator works closely with Business Development, Bid Managers, and Pre-Construction Managers to ensure accurate, compliant, and competitive proposals.

This position is ideal for professionals with early experience in estimating or pre-construction, as well as motivated individuals new to the construction industry who are eager to learn proposal development, cost estimating, and bid strategy. Essential Functions

  • Complete the development and delivery of bids and project estimates, ensuring all pre-qualification questionnaires and tender documentation are accurate and complete
  • Draft, review, and finalize bid submissions, ensuring all proposals are submitted on time and fully compliant with client and solicitation requirements
  • Perform piping and material take-offs and estimate mechanical equipment and plumbing fixture installations
  • Ensure all proposals meet internal quality standards, company branding guidelines, and client specific formatting requirements
  • Analyze client documents to ensure bid responses directly and accurately address all stated requirements
  • Support Sales Engineers with bid follow-up activities and close-out processes

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; technical degree strongly preferred
  • 0–3 years of experience in estimating, bid coordination, or project management within the construction industry
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to produce high quality, detail oriented work that meets both client and internal standards
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management skills to meet milestones and submission deadlines

 

Preferred

  • Experience using Trimble AutoBid Mechanical
  • Experience with Citrix ShareFile
  • Experience with AutoCAD MEP and Autodesk Revit
  • Prior experience working in a union environment
  • Experience supporting public sector or pharmaceutical industry projects

 

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly requires sustained mental focus, speaking, hearing, reading, and fine and gross motor skills for extended periods
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently required to walk and sit
  • Occasionally required to stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and lift up to 25 pounds
