About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead complex HVAC engineering initiatives within the commercial retrofit space. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or a highly experienced engineer ready to take ownership of system design, mentor team members, and influence long-term infrastructure strategies.
You will approach buildings as dynamic systems, delivering innovative solutions that go beyond traditional “like-for-like” replacements. Your work will focus on optimizing performance, extending system longevity, and solving root causes of mechanical challenges.
Engineering Objective
Lead high-impact engineering efforts focused on designing, analyzing, and improving HVAC and mechanical systems within existing commercial facilities. This role emphasizes long-term performance, system optimization, and innovative problem-solving.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform holistic evaluations of existing MEP systems, including in-field verification
- Conduct detailed heating and cooling load calculations to ensure proper equipment sizing
- Design HVAC ductwork and piping systems with a focus on maintainability and long-term efficiency
- Develop creative engineering solutions that improve building performance and system operations
- Produce stamped construction documents and specifications that meet or exceed applicable codes and standards
- Mentor and guide junior engineering staff
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, structural, and controls specialists
- Support business development by participating in client meetings and providing technical expertise
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure future-ready designs
Project Scope & Impact
- Lead engineering across diverse project types including office buildings, healthcare facilities, laboratories, manufacturing plants, and data centers
- Drive coordination across disciplines to ensure seamless and efficient project delivery
- Influence long-term infrastructure decisions that impact building lifecycle performance
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- One of the following experience paths:
- 10+ years of HVAC design experience focused on commercial mechanical systems and retrofits
- OR 6+ years of HVAC design experience with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP
- Strong knowledge of HVAC codes and energy standards
- Experience producing stamped engineering documents (for PE candidates)
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
- Experience in complex facilities such as healthcare, labs, or data centers preferred
