Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior BAS Technician / Programmer to join our growing team supporting complex building automation and controls projects. This role is ideal for a hands-on controls professional with extensive experience programming and commissioning Siemens or Distech systems in large commercial and institutional environments.
The successful candidate will lead programming, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting efforts on major construction projects, including hospitals, central utility plants, and mission-critical facilities. This individual will also provide leadership and mentorship to junior-level technicians while serving as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of Building Automation Systems (BAS) experience
- Strong programming experience with Siemens or Distech control systems
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting BAS systems on construction projects
- Demonstrated ability to independently program, startup, and optimize control sequences
- Experience leading, training, and managing junior technicians in the field
- Knowledge of HVAC systems including:
- Chillers
- Water-cooled chilled water systems
- Boilers
- Air handling units
- Pumping systems
- Central plant operations
- Ability to read and interpret control drawings, mechanical plans, and sequences of operation
- Strong customer-facing communication skills
- Ability to work at project sites and construction environments
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of BAS programming and commissioning experience
- Extensive experience working in hospital and healthcare environments
- Experience supporting large-scale central utility plant projects
- Background with complex chilled water plant startups and optimization
- Experience with integrations, networking, and advanced BAS graphics
- Industry certifications related to building automation, controls, or HVAC systems
- Previous experience serving as lead technician on multi-million-dollar construction projects
Key Responsibilities
- Program, commission, and troubleshoot Siemens or Distech BAS platforms
- Lead startup activities for HVAC equipment and integrated control systems
- Perform commissioning and functional testing for complex building systems
- Support large construction projects from installation through owner turnover
- Program and optimize chilled water plants, water-cooled chillers, pumps, and related equipment
- Review project documentation, submittals, drawings, and sequences of operation
- Mentor and oversee junior BAS technicians to ensure quality execution
- Coordinate with project managers, mechanical contractors, and end users
- Diagnose and resolve complex control system issues
- Support project closeout, documentation, and customer training
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction
