Position Overview
The Senior Building Automation Installation Technician leads the installation and execution of Building Automation System (BAS) projects across commercial and industrial facilities. This role is responsible for interpreting mechanical and controls drawings, directing installation activities, coordinating with other trades, and mentoring junior technicians. The position combines hands-on technical expertise with field leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
This is a leadership oriented role for an experienced building controls professional who excels in field execution, problem solving, and team development.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Execution
- Lead and execute assigned building automation installation projects from pre-planning through completion
- Interpret and apply mechanical, electrical, and automatic temperature control drawings
- Participate in project pre-planning meetings, scope reviews, and coordination efforts
- Coordinate installation activities with general contractors and other trades on site
- Identify field issues, customer concerns, and design conflicts; escalate appropriately to ensure resolution
Installation and Technical Work
- Install control wiring in accordance with industry standards and project specifications
- Install conduit, fittings, and related infrastructure per code and best practices
- Mount, wire, and terminate controllers, sensors, actuators, and end devices
- Troubleshoot wiring, terminations, and field installed equipment using test instruments
- Verify system readiness for commissioning and turnover
Team Leadership and Development
- Provide direction and leadership to assigned technicians and subcontractors
- Ensure all team members follow safety policies and jobsite procedures
- Mentor and train junior-level installation technicians to improve skill development and performance
Safety and Work Environment
- Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors
- Work day or night shifts as required by project schedules
- Perform work in environments exposed to weather, including open-deck construction sites
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience installing Building Automation and Controls systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and BAS drawings
- Strong working knowledge of control wiring, conduit installation, and device termination
- Experience troubleshooting field wiring and installed equipment
- Demonstrated ability to lead field teams and coordinate subcontractors
- Commitment to safety, quality, and jobsite professionalism
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, based on project needs
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of building automation or controls installation experience
- Experience mentoring or training junior technicians
- Familiarity with integrated building systems such as HVAC, lighting, security, and access control
- Experience working on large commercial or industrial construction projects
- Preferred: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
