Position Overview
The Senior BAS Technician/Programmer is responsible for the complete life cycle of building automation systems—including programming, graphics creation, installation oversight, system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing service.
This is a true senior?level role designed for someone capable of independently handling complex BAS projects from start to finish. The organization requires a technician who can build programs, logic, and graphics from scratch, not simply modify existing templates. Work includes both service and construction/e-construction projects.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of hands?on experience with Tridium/Niagara, including full programming capability
- Ability to build complete BAS programs, graphics, logic, and sequences from scratch
- Strong proficiency with block logic
- Experience managing installation subcontractors during project execution
- Strong mechanical understanding of HVAC systems (airside and hydronic)
- 3–5 years of experience with DDC BAS, BACnet, and IP networking
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, sequences, electrical drawings, and control schematics
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex systems in both service and construction environments
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers, contractors, engineers, and internal teams
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
- High School Diploma and/or Trade School equivalent
- Ability to work occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends
- Ability to travel throughout South Texas as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Automated Logic, especially block?logic-based systems
- Experience with additional BAS platforms such as Siemens, Distech, or similar
- Experience creating detailed sequences of operation, network layouts, and flow diagrams
- Prior leadership or mentorship experience with junior technicians
- Additional BAS certifications
Key Responsibilities
- Installation Oversight
- Manage installation subcontractors to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet quality standards
- Programming & Graphics Development
- Build complete BAS programs from scratch using block logic
- Create intuitive front?end graphics and system databases
- Develop full system logic without relying solely on template libraries
- Startup, Checkout & Commissioning
- Perform full system checkout and commissioning for both air and water systems
- Validate system functionality and correct programming/logic issues
- Service & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve complex BAS issues
- Perform adjustments, calibration, and system repairs as needed
- Customer Interaction & Documentation
- Deliver user training on BAS hardware and software
- Complete closeout documentation, as?built updates, and reports
- Maintain consistent communication with customers and internal project teams
- Independent Project Execution
- Handle multiple projects in a demanding environment with minimal oversight
