Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Automation Technician / Programmer to join a growing team supporting complex commercial and industrial facilities throughout the Nashville market. This role is ideal for a seasoned BAS professional who thrives in the field, enjoys solving challenging system issues, and brings deep hands-on experience with Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, and Reliable Controls platforms. You will play a critical role in system programming, commissioning, optimization, and long-term client satisfaction while mentoring junior technicians and collaborating with project managers and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, configure, and commission building automation systems for HVAC and integrated building systems across new construction and retrofit projects
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot control sequences using Tridium Niagara (N4), JCI Metasys, and Reliable Controls
- Perform advanced diagnostics on controllers, networks, and field devices to resolve system performance issues
- Lead system startups and functional performance testing, ensuring projects meet design intent and client expectations
- Review mechanical and controls drawings, submittals, and sequences of operation to ensure accurate implementation
- Interface directly with customers, facility teams, and project stakeholders to explain system functionality and provide technical guidance
- Support system upgrades, expansions, and migrations, including legacy system integration
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and programmers
- Maintain accurate documentation, graphics, backups, and as-built records
- Follow safety standards and best practices on all job sites
Required Qualifications
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in building automation systems programming and field service
- Strong working knowledge of Tridium Niagara Framework (N4)
- Direct experience programming and servicing Johnson Controls Metasys systems
- Proven experience with Reliable Controls hardware and software
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, including air handlers, VAVs, chillers, boilers, and associated control strategies
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings
- Strong troubleshooting skills with BACnet, IP networking, and control panels
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within the Nashville area
Preferred Qualifications
- Niagara N4 Certification
- Johnson Controls Metasys certification or factory training
- Reliable Controls certification or advanced project experience
- Experience with energy optimization, analytics, and retro-commissioning
- Exposure to integration of lighting, access control, or other smart building systems
- Prior experience leading small project teams or acting as a technical lead
