Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Building Automation Design/Application Engineer to support the planning, design, and implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Direct Digital Control (DDC) solutions for commercial and institutional facilities. This position plays a critical role in translating customer requirements into efficient, scalable, and sustainable automation solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, controls theory, and experience with automation platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Distech, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar.
Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with sales and project teams to develop technical solutions, sequence of operations (SOO), and control strategies for building automation systems.

Design and engineer BAS/DDC systems including controller layouts, wiring diagrams, and network topologies.

Select and apply appropriate hardware and software components based on project requirements.

Generate submittal packages, including control drawings, valve and sensor schedules, riser diagrams, and functional narratives.

Ensure compliance with project specifications, ASHRAE standards, and applicable building codes.

Coordinate with project managers, estimators, electricians, and field technicians to support installation and commissioning activities.

Provide technical support during project kickoff, installation, and final system validation.

Participate in the review and handoff of as-built documentation.

Contribute to value engineering initiatives by identifying cost-effective design alternatives.

Stay current with new technologies, integration protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks), and industry trends in smart building systems.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

3+ years of experience in BAS/DDC system design or application engineering.

Working knowledge of HVAC control sequences, equipment operation, and mechanical system design.

Proficiency in reading mechanical plans, wiring diagrams, and specifications.

Familiarity with automation platforms such as Niagara N4, Distech, Siemens, Honeywell, Alerton, or Johnson Controls.

Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or similar design tools; Bluebeam and Revit experience a plus.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
