Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Building Automation Design Engineer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for the design and development of building automation systems (BAS) that control HVAC, lighting, and other critical building functions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in control systems design, a solid understanding of HVAC and electrical systems, and the ability to translate project requirements into efficient, code-compliant, and cost-effective control solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project specifications, architectural drawings, and mechanical plans to determine BAS requirements.

  • Design control system architecture, including network layout, control panel layout, and point-to-point wiring diagrams.

  • Select appropriate sensors, actuators, controllers, and other hardware components for each project.

  • Develop detailed sequences of operation (SOO) for all controlled equipment and systems.

  • Produce comprehensive engineering submittal packages, including riser diagrams, device layouts, and bill of materials.

  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, programmers, electricians, and field technicians to ensure design intent is maintained from concept to commissioning.

  • Ensure compliance with local codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, NEC, etc.), and company design practices.

  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting efforts by providing technical assistance and field support as needed.

  • Participate in project turnover meetings and assist in documentation for as-built drawings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent technical field.

  • 3+ years of experience in building automation or HVAC controls design.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or Revit; experience with Visio, Excel, and BAS programming tools a plus.

  • Familiarity with major BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara, Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Distech, etc.).

  • Solid understanding of HVAC equipment operation and electrical wiring principles.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
