Position Summary

The Building Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, and optimizing building automation and energy management systems (EMS). This role works closely with project managers, HVAC teams, and controls technicians to deliver high-performance systems that ensure occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer BAS control systems based on mechanical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements

  • Develop control sequences, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD or similar tools

  • Program and configure BAS controllers, HMIs, and graphical user interfaces (e.g., Niagara, Tridium, Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.)

  • Commission and troubleshoot BAS systems, including point-to-point checks and system-level validation

  • Optimize control strategies for HVAC, lighting, and other integrated systems to maximize performance and energy savings

  • Collaborate with field technicians and subcontractors during installation and startup phases

  • Provide technical support for service teams and end-users

  • Document systems and maintain as-built control drawings and programming archives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of experience in building automation system design and commissioning

  • Proficient in one or more BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara N4, Tridium, Distech, Alerton, Siemens, Honeywell, etc.)

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, control sequences, and energy efficiency principles

  • Experience with programming tools, system graphics, and integration protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.)

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites
