Job Title: Building Automation Estimator

The Building Automation Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project specifications and requirements to develop accurate cost estimates for building automation systems (BAS), with a preference for candidates familiar with Johnson Controls Metasys or similar platforms. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, cost analysis, and project coordination skills to support successful project bidding and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and RFPs to understand BAS scope and requirements.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for HVAC controls, lighting, and integration systems.
  • Prepare take-offs, material lists, and labor estimates for BAS projects.
  • Coordinate with sales, engineering, and project management teams to align estimates with customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain pricing and product information.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to meet client budgets while maintaining system performance.
  • Prepare and present proposals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and professional formatting.
  • Maintain organized documentation of estimates, revisions, and supporting materials.
  • Participate in turnover meetings to convey project scope and budgetary details to operations.
  • Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, and product innovations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Johnson Controls building automation systems (Metasys preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in BAS estimating, engineering, or project management.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, DDC controls, and integration protocols.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, QuickBid, Excel).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred but not required).
