Position Overview
As a Building Automation Estimator, you’ll play a critical role in shaping project proposals by accurately scoping, estimating, and presenting costs for building automation system installations, integrations, and retrofits. You’ll work within a collaborative and integrity-driven environment serving clients across multiple product lines—from Tridium and Johnson Controls to Alerton, KMC, Honeywell, and others.
Key Responsibilities

Review plans, specifications, and client requirements to develop detailed cost estimates (labor, materials, subcontractors).

Prepare and submit proposals, scopes, and pricing documents in collaboration with sales, engineering, and business operations teams.

Evaluate vendor submissions, negotiate pricing, and align estimates with project objectives.

Support handoff to project management to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution.

Maintain standardized estimating tools, templates, and takeoff processes.

Stay updated on product lines, protocols (e.g. BACnet, Tridium, Metasys, EasyIO), and industry trends.

Help improve estimating processes through software integration and workflow enhancements.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; engineering background a strong asset (industry experience not required).

Estimating Experience: 3+ years preferred in building automation, HVAC controls, or related disciplines .

Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with BAS systems and protocols (e.g., Tridium R2/AX/N4, Johnson Controls Metasys, Alerton, KMC, Honeywell).

Software Skills: Proficiency in Excel; experience with estimating or takeoff tools (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, cost databases) a strong plus.

Communication: Strong verbal and written skills; able to interact effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
