Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced HVAC Engineer to design, develop, and oversee the installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. The HVAC Engineer will be responsible for ensuring system efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards and building codes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical system design, energy efficiency, and hands-on field collaboration with contractors and project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify HVAC systems including air handling units, chillers, boilers, ductwork, and piping for new construction and retrofit projects.

  • Prepare load calculations, equipment selections, layouts, and detailed drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM tools.

  • Develop sequence of operations and collaborate with BAS/controls teams to ensure proper system integration.

  • Perform energy modeling and propose sustainable, cost-effective HVAC solutions in line with LEED or other green building standards.

  • Review architectural, structural, and electrical plans to ensure proper mechanical coordination.

  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify system performance and compliance.

  • Work closely with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors to meet project timelines and budgets.

  • Prepare and review submittals, O&M manuals, and as-built documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in HVAC design and engineering, preferably with commercial or institutional projects.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Trace 700, HAP, or similar HVAC design tools.

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, local building codes, and energy codes (IECC).

  • Strong understanding of HVAC control systems and integration with building automation systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • EIT or PE licensure is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • LEED accreditation or knowledge of sustainable building practices.

  • Experience working with chilled water, VAV systems, VRF, geothermal, and energy recovery systems.

  • Prior field experience in construction, commissioning, or service of HVAC systems.
