Position Summary:
As an HVAC Estimator you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial HVAC projects including new construction, system replacements, and service contracts. You will work closely with project managers, designers, suppliers, and field technicians to ensure our proposals reflect scope, risk, and best?practice solutions that align with our goal of excellence and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:

Review project drawings, specifications, mechanical schedules and RFP documents to determine scope of work for HVAC systems (new construction and retrofit)

Quantify materials (ductwork, piping, equipment, controls, insulation, supports) and labour required for HVAC installations, maintenance and service contracts

Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for equipment, materials, and subcontracted labour

Prepare detailed bid proposals, including line-item breakdowns, assumptions, exclusions, markup, overhead, and profit margin

Collaborate with design engineers, project managers and field supervisors to identify value?engineering opportunities, constructability issues, and risk mitigation strategies

Maintain and update cost databases, historical bid logs, productivity rates, vendor pricing, and create standard estimating templates

Meet bid submission deadlines while ensuring accuracy, completeness and competitiveness

Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope validation, and subcontractor coordination as required

Present estimates and negotiate scope adjustments with clients, general contractors or internal stakeholders

Track status of bids, manage follow-up, analyze wins/losses and provide feedback for continuous improvement

Assist with project kickoff and transition from estimate to execution (handover to operations) including documentation of scope, schedule and budget assumptions
Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum of 3-5 years estimating experience in commercial/industrial HVAC contracting or mechanical construction

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, ductwork/piping fabrication and installation, service & maintenance contracts

Proficiency with estimating software (for example: Trimble WinEst, McCormick, or similar) and/or take-off tools (Bluebeam, PlanSwift)

Solid math, analytical, organizational and time-management skills

Excellent communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills

Ability to interpret mechanical, architectural and structural drawings, equipment schedules and specifications

Familiarity with local codes, standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, etc.) and construction practices in commercial/industrial HVAC

Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work effectively under deadlines and with minimal supervision

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience is preferred (but not mandatory)
